LUNA DE MATTEIS
My work uses abstraction in a sensuous, organic manner. Through a variety of materials, from bronze and gold to found and natural objects, I painstakingly hand craft one of a kind 2 and 3 dimensional pieces, which are of a tactile, albeit oneiric character.
The contrasting feel brought about by the richness of the varied media and the primal simplicity of my designs, is evocative of Nature’s shapes, formations and accidents.
In addition to the obvious implications of a subtle homage, this recurrent theme reflects upon concepts that are pervasive in my work, such as duality vs wholeness, and illusion in a multidimensional reality; philosophical concerns which tend to be mingled with more or less prosaic facts from my personal history, such as an early, forceful start in the roads of migration.
Ultimately, my work speaks of the connections, somewhat ethereal, between the outer world, and that intangible dimension which is the realm of the human heart, mind and spirit.
